The Nantucket Book Festival presents Juneteenth, a panel discussion first broadcast on a day that is now marked in history. On Thursday June 17, 2021, President Biden, seated next to Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, signed a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday to be celebrated across America, just hours before our event. This day commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation -- a day also known as Emancipation or Freedom Day.
Join us with our powerhouse panel of writers, Mitchell Jackson, Dr. Keisha N. Blain, Imani Perry, Deesha Philyaw and Clint Smith in this discussion of Juneteenth in America.
